Cypress
Cypress (Taxodium distichum) Baldcypress. Also Black,
Red, Southern, White, Yellow, and Common Cypress Source: Gulf States,
Middle Mississippi Valley, Southeastern Coast of the United States. Color:
Yellowish red, often nearly salmon-colored. Pattern: Very distinct leafy
grain Characteristics: Annual rings combine soft, open-meshed spring
wood, and hard, closer-grained summer wood. Moderately strong and light
very durable. Uses: Normally for its great durability (against decay);
also for architectural interiors and furniture, especially Pecky Cypress
for its “textured look.” Availability: Limited as veneer; readily
available as lumber. Price Range: Average.
