Birch (Red)

Birch. (Betula alleghaniensis, formerly Betula lutea) Source: Canada and the Lake States and New England to North Carolina in the United States. Color: Cream or light brown tinged with red, with thin, newly white sap-wood. Pattern: Both rotary and sliced, plain and often curly or wavy. Characteristics: Heavy; very strong; hard; closed-grained; even texture. Uses: Furniture; interiors; interior and exterior doom; store fixtures; accessories, etc. Availability: Readily available as veneer and lumber. As veneer the sapwood of rotary birch is sold as "selected white" and the heartwood as "selected red." The greater volume produced is 'natural birch" and contains a normal combination of color tones.
